TLDR: The dentists there seriously need a class on consent and how to get it from their clients. After moving to Wilmington, my family and I had picked Coastal Smiles as our dentist, and we all have regretted our visits. Rough and painful treatment in the chair and rushing through procedures with no explanation of their process left me bewildered and traumatized from the experience. The Injection site from anesthetic I received from them took several weeks to heal, and several months before the pain went away. All of that would have even been fine if they took the literal seconds to explain I was about to be stabbed with a needle without topical anesthetic, but the shocking pain in the roof of my mouth when they missed my gums seemed sufficient to them. If it were just my own experience, I probably wouldn't have made this review, but after my parents and siblings reporting similar treatment, I hope this serves as a PSA for all those looking for dental work in Wilmington.

I was grateful the office was able to squeeze me in on short notice — the front desk staff were genuinely sweet and helpful. When the dentist came in, the appointment moved very quickly. He didn’t go over treatment options or show me any X‑rays; he simply assessed the situation and proceeded to pull the tooth. In the end, that may have been the best choice, but the lack of communication made the experience feel rushed, and at times I felt more like a number than a patient. He also made comments about additional treatment I would need, but didn’t take the time to explain the options or let me share the reasons behind the damage to my teeth — which are partly family‑related and partly due to medical issues with my GI system. I would have appreciated a moment to discuss that. Still, I truly appreciated how kind and accommodating the office staff were.

Rachel is an amazing hygienist and always goes above and beyond in making sure she communicates her every move and that I am comfortable during my cleaning. I am also so thankful for Dr. Lee's chair side manners and advice and would recommend Coastal Smiles to anyone looking for an personal feel with professionalism and comfort.

I’m a new patient of them and was seen very quickly. I always arrived 15 minutes early to calm down and reset my mind in there spacious waiting area. X-Rays were quickly done a viewed while reaffirming the next step. I prefer painless dentistry! My follow up and next appointment were all done in less than 45 days. I had no concerns about treatment and would recommend them to friends and family. I like Coastal Smiles Family Dentistry. They are conveniently located off Carolina Beach Road. I Look forward to following up in 2027 for a routine cleaning.

I called Coastal Smiles this morning, as a new patient for an emergency implant repair. They had me in the office within two hours. The front staff, with their kindness and genuine smiles, made the process easy. Dr. Lee was professional and thorough. He made quick work of the repair. Additionally, he was very patient with me as I asked a number of unrelated Dental questions. I was so satisfied with my appointment, that upon departing, I made my next appointment for Cleaning.
